Dublin Strolls: From the Vikings to the Normans

Walking Tour

Offline

From the Vikings to the Normans – the evidence of their presence is all around us. You’d be surprised the secrets our city holds. We will meet at Essex Gate, one of the original city gates, the perfect place to introduce you to the origins of Dublin as we stroll in the footsteps of our ancestors. You’ll recognise some familiar sites and discover hidden ones, as we peel back the layers of 1200 years of history. Illuminate your Viking past as we visit the original Viking settlement and understand their way of life. Leaving our Viking forefathers behind, you’ll traverse through Norman Dublin, and see the oldest church still in use. The Vikings used timber and as such very little remains, whereas the Normans were expert stone masons and the evidence of their presence will be all around us. Discover the road to hell at the forty steps. You’d be surprised the secrets our city holds. Starting Point: Essex Gate, Dublin 8, Dublin
