An Evening of Art, Music, and Performance with the Hugh Lane Gallery


The Hugh Lane Gallery will present an evening of art, music, performance and more inspired by modern and contemporary art through an imaginative programme of online and (subject to current guidelines) in-gallery activity as well as opportunities for enjoying the collection and temporary exhibitions on view.

Artists and performers to participate include Asbestos, Felispeaks, Cora Venus Lunny, Teatro Sin Fin, Paul G Smyth, Sorca McGrath (Ships), Djackulate and Méabh Meir (Landless).

Premier on Hugh Lane Gallery YouTube channel, 5pm ‘Amongst Ourselves’ by FELISPEAKS with Zeenie Summers, Modinat Bolaji, Aisha Bolaji, Sola Ekeh, Kara Ekeh, Melody Chadamoyo and Siobhan Chinenyanga.

Commissioned by Hugh Lane Gallery especially for Culture Night, ‘Amongst Ourselves’ is a short poetic film that considers the dynamic of the Black Irish mother daughter relationship, through Spoken Word performances, melodies by Zeenie Summers and the rich symbolism of feminine archetypes.  Set within the oldest Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in the world – the Hugh Lane Gallery – this film presents and celebrates the growth of Black Irish history & culture.


5pm onwards  Online ScannĂĄin/Films BĂ­gĂ­ ag faire le gearr lĂ©achtaĂ­ ar ‘The Maggie Man’ le Jack B. Yeats, atĂĄ mar chuid de bhailiĂșchan DhĂĄnlann an Hugh Lane, agus ar an GrianghrafadĂłireacht de Peter Beard, a shaothar gur thaitin le Francis Bacon. We have two short films on YouTube in Irish for Culture Night. One explores The Maggie Man by Jack B. Yeats and the other looks at the work of photographer Peter Beard. These films as gaeilge are available to view on Culture Night via the Gallery’s YouTube channel here


7pm Online Talk: Join us for this live online talk when Aoife Convery will be discussing our current exhibitions Cecil King: Present in Time Future and Joseph Beuys from Secret Block to Rosc. This free illustrated online talk as part of Culture Night will be presented via the Zoom online platform.
