Buddhism And Western Culture: An Exploration

Online

Wherever in the world Buddhism has been practiced over its 2,500 year history, there has been a dialogue between the essential spiritual aspects of the tradition and elements of the local culture.

We are in a fascinating phase of Buddhist history where, for the first time, there is a meeting of this tradition with modern western culture.

In these online interviews, members of the Triratna Buddhist Order discuss the inspirations and possibilities arising from this encounter.

Part 1

7 – 8pm

Born of Fire & the Void

Jnanadhara will interview Alokavira, Aryapala and Sugarbha about the first issue of the new Buddhist Zine Born of Fire & the Void. The Zine explores the world of dark eros, subculture, magick, black metal and religious life in a diy magazine.

Part 2

8:30 – 9:30pm

Bach, Beckett & the Buddha

Jnanadhara & Dayasagara in conversation about being Western Buddhists in the 21st century and how the Western artistic tradition can inform a Buddhist life.
