Donegal Travellers Project – #DiversityAware

Donegal Says Black, Traveller, Roma Lives Matter

Who we are?

Donegal Travellers Project is an independent, locally based community development organisation working for and with the Traveller and Roma Community in Donegal. This year on Culture Night we will showcase two short videos of from our Building Intercultural Communities Project on our Facebook pages Donegal Travellers Project and Intercultural Donegal. You can also see the videos on the links below.

Donegal Travellers ‘Building Intercultural Communities’ Project (funded through EU’s Peace IV Programme) in collaboration with Donegal Intercultural Platform hosted during the summer a Black, Traveller & Roma Lives Matter solidarity event. A poignant day for Donegal where Black Minority Ethnic Communities gathered together with people from all across the county in Letterkenny to spell out the words Black, Traveller, Roma Lives Matter.

Click below to see a short clip of the Black, Traveller, Roma Lives Matter event:

Participants on the day talked about the importance of taking part in such an event to recognise the struggle and oppression that has been felt and experience by Black Minority Ethnic communities including the Traveller and Roma communities.

One participant shares why he stands united supporting this event –

“I’m here today in solidarity to stand against all forms of discrimination against Black people, Travellers in Ireland and the Roma people. We are here to highlight that this discrimination happens in Ireland as well, not only in America. So by standing together we are hoping that all of this will change and will participate in policy reform in Ireland to ensure there’s change in our society so that everyone can live in peace”. – Tshamano Musltapitc

On the day of the event the DiversityAware training programme was launched which is now available on Upon successful completion participants will receive a DiversityAware course certificate.  The training programme will support individuals to use terms relating to diversity with confidence and become a stepping stone to the exploration of the concepts/issues discussed.
