The Department occupies the South wing of the impressive Sir Aston Webb-designed Government Buildings. Neoclassical in appearance, construction materials blended modern concrete and steel with traditional marble, Portland stone and Irish granite. Its 2017 renovation was “highly commended” by the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland.
A guided tour will include background on the Building’s History, Art and Architecture; sight of the Sir Aston Webb’s original architectural drawings; access to the display of artefacts from the Department’s historical collection; sight of the Minister for Finance’s Office and Conference Room; access to the TK Whitaker Conference Room; and, some insights on famous and interesting people associated with the building and the Department down the years.
