Description:
Celebrate Culture Night at Shelbourne Park and discover the story of one of Dublin’s best-known sporting venues. Located in the heart of Ringsend, Shelbourne Park has been woven into the social and sporting fabric of the area for more than a century. Visit the Shelbourne Park Museum and explore the history of a venue that is preparing to mark 100 years of greyhound racing in 2027.
Before becoming Ireland’s premier greyhound racing stadium, the grounds hosted some of the most notable events in Irish sporting history. Named after Shelbourne FC, it staged football matches from 1913, welcomed Manchester United for their first game on Irish soil in 1914, and hosted a major four-day fête opened by Éamon de Valera in 1921. Rugby league was played here for the first time in 1934, while more recently the venue featured on Top Gear and hosted a fan zone for the 2024 UEFA Europa League Final.
Today, Shelbourne Park is best known as the home of the Irish Greyhound Derby, Ireland’s richest and most prestigious greyhound race. Through photographs, memorabilia and stories from across the decades, this special Culture Night event offers the opportunity to explore the people, occasions and sporting moments that have shaped Shelbourne Park and secured its place in Dublin’s history. Come along for an evening of heritage, community and culture at this famous Dublin landmark.
