Marmosets

Marmosets is a duo-cello project from Mary Barnecutt and Lioba Petrie, both acclaimed cellists, producers and singers based in Dublin and Wicklow. The musicians draw on their experience as multi-genre players to fuse folk traditions, song, contemporary composition and dronescapes to create an unworldly music which is at the same time grounded in very earthly traditions. Using electronics, shruti boxes, vocals and cellos the resultant sounds are magical soundscapes of ancient and contemporary music firmly rooted in place.

Unshaped Form : Lioba Petrie (cello/vocals), Cameron Doyle (guitar/effects) with special guests Sam Perkin (piano), Matthew Jacobson (percussion) bring their unique cinematicsoundscapes to the Abbey Presbyterian Church as part of the Hugh Lane Gallery’s event
programme for Culture Night.

Unshaped Form’s new project LIFT OFF is a a live audio-visual adventure through space. Expect an immersive mix of modern acoustic instruments, dynamic percussion, spatial cosmic textures and inspiring visuals from the voyager space project, Nasa and animation
from the 1920’s and 1980’s. For this unique event Unshaped Form present a programme of short films, varying from cartoon animation to original footage form the Voyager space mission all based around the
theme of outer space.

Matthew Jacobson : percussionist+synths

Matthew Jacobson is an Irish drummer, improviser, composer, educator and producer. Matthew leads his own groups ReDiviDeR (free improv quartet) and Insufficient Funs (ebullient drums and bass saxophone duo) and has recently developed a solo drums+synths
project. He co-leads Roamer (quartet of Ireland’s most internationally recognised improvisers), hyperlynx (trio with Swiss-based collaborators), Origin Story (contemporary piano trio) and regularly tours, performs and records with leading creative musicians around
the world.

Whether you are a history buff, a music lover, or simply looking for a welcoming place to pause, there is something for everyone. Visitors are invited to explore the historic architecture on a relaxed self-guided tour, browse a pop-up second-hand book sale, and enjoy live music throughout the evening.

Guests are also welcome to chat with members of the community or simply find a quiet pew and take in the peaceful atmosphere of this sacred space. From the music filling the rafters to the stories found within its walls, Abbey Presbyterian Church offers a warm welcome and the opportunity to experience one of Parnell Square’s historic landmarks at a leisurely pace.
