Cork City Library – Children and Young People’s Library: Miniature Cantonese Flowerboard Workshop

Cantonese in Ireland
16:00 - 17:30
No Booking Required
All Ages

Description:

15:30-17:30
Miniature Cantonese Flowerboard Workshop is the first event of 'Cantonese Flowerboard' programme.

Cantonese Flowerboard crafting technique is listed as Hong Kong Intangible Cultural Heritage. It is used in different celebrating occasions in Hong Kong: shop openings, concerts or religious festivals.

In this workshop, participants will explore the design of Cantonese flower boards. Participants will use cardboards to make the base, detailed with a printout of dragon, phoenix and cloud patterns. Red clothes and pre-made craft flowers will be used. Everyone will get the hands-on experience to make a miniature flower board and bring home.

The following Saturday after Culture Night, we will have another workshop in the main library to explore the technique and craftsmanship of setting the frame using bamboo sticks. The participants in this workshop will make a big flower board together. And the flower board will be displayed in our photo exhibition in November later on.

The 'Cantonese Flowerboard' programme is supported by the Creative Ireland Programme, an all-of-government five-year initiative, from 2023 to 2027, which places creativity at
the centre of public policy. Further information from creativeireland.gov.ie
