Description:

For the first time, the Local Studies & Learning Department will open its doors to the public on Culture Night, offering a unique opportunity to discover some of the hidden treasures held within the library that are not normally on public display.

Visitors are invited to explore a rich and diverse collection of books, newspapers, manuscripts, maps and photographs, showcasing the breadth of the library’s special collections.

The evening also provides an opportunity to learn more about accessing online resources, including the Irish Newspaper Archive, genealogy websites and census records, which can help uncover family histories and support local and historical research.

To mark Ireland’s Presidency of the Council of the European Union, the library will showcase contemporary newspaper coverage of significant European events, including Ireland’s accession to the E.E.C. in 1973, offering a glimpse into how these landmark moments were reported and experienced at the time.

Join the Local Studies & Learning Department for an evening of discovery and explore the stories, collections and resources that lie beyond the bookshelves.
