CMC’s Ensemble-in-Residence for 2020/21 Kirkos Ensemble, under the artistic direction of Sebastian Adams, will perform works in progress by composers from across Ireland as part of the Composer Hub project. Participating composers include Susan Geaney, Darragh Kelly, Áine Mallon, Ultan O’Brien and Seán Ó Dálaigh, and they are being mentored by established CMC composers, including Ann Cleare, Donnacha Dennehy, Deirdre Gribbin, Karen Power and Jennifer Walshe.
For Culture Night 2020, CMC will present an evening of online features filmed at the Composer Hub workshops held in late August / early September, through which audiences will have an opportunity to see ‘behind the scenes’ and witness how new works of music are created. The workshopping of the participating composers’ works will be featured in a series of online features in which Kirkos Ensemble performers Hugh Murray (violin), Yseult Cooper Stockdale (cello), Miriam Kaczor (flute), Hannah Miller (horn) and Tom Roseingrave (voice/actor) bring to life these works in progress developed collaboratively between the composers and performers. These online features will be released on CMC’s social media channels throughout the night on Culture Night 2020. These online features will also include contributions from participating composers about their works and their personal experience of the collaborative aspect of this partnership project between CMC and Kirkos Ensemble.
At 8.00pm, CMC will host an online panel discussion with a selection of the mentor composers involved in this project, led by CMC Director Evonne Ferguson, preceded by a discussion about the Composer Hub project with Kirkos Ensemble’s Artistic Director Sebastian Adams. This online panel discussion will be repeated at 9.00pm.
CMC’s Ensemble-in-Residence is an initiative supported by the Dublin City Council Arts Grants. Kirkos Ensemble is in receipt of an Arts Grant from the Arts Council of Ireland for this Ensemble-in-Residence project, and its participation in the Composer Hub project is also supported by IMRO Ireland.
