Connecting Cultures through Craft

This Culture Night, The Leitrim Design House are delighted to celebrate an exhibition of art work created in Leitrim by sixteen Ukrainian women living in the county. Members of the public, old and new communities are invited to join us to celebrate this work and learn a little about the Ukrainian culture.

Through funding from the Creative Communities programme and Creative Ireland, The Leitrim Design House facilitated a series of twelve textile workshops throughout the summer, led by experienced Leitrim textile artist, Catherine Gray. These workshops were offered to the Ukrainian community living in the region as an outlet for self-expression and a chance to connect and integrate within the community through craft. This exhibition is a culmination of the artwork produced by the group over the summer.

Meet and greet this community at a reception launch at 6pm. From 6pm to 8pm, drop in to ‘Meet the Maker’, Catherine Gray! Watch and test out some of the processes involved in creating the exhibiting art work alongside this innovative artist. Enjoy a slide show of the processes and art work being created with a voiceover from members of the Ukrainian group sharing their reflections and culture. We are very grateful for the support of the Leitrim County Council for this event.
