Ag Lorg Ár Líne - Clare Women: Listening and Performing

Online

Ag Lorg Ár Líne – Clare Women: Listening and Performing.

Ag Lorg Ár Líne is a recording concept driven by research and collaboration.  By listening deeply to archival recordings of their female predecessors, contemporary musicians Nuala Kennedy and Tara Breen are attempting to ‘collaborate remotely’ across time and space with some of their County Clare musical foremothers: Kitty Hayes, song/concertina; Nell Galvin, fiddle; Mary Haren, concertina and singer Nora Cleary.

Through creative use of digital archival recordings, Nuala and Tara will explore and reimagine the details and subtleties of the music of these influential women performers through contemporary duet performance.

Ag Lorg Ár Líne has been commissioned through the Duala Creator in Residence Programme by Clare Arts Office and the Irish Traditional Music Archive.

From the Well

Online

With sound by composer Fiona Linnane and images from photographer Claire O’Rorke, From the Well is an artistic response to exploring the holy wells of the Burren. The inspiration came from days trudging across the hills armed with microphones and cameras, in search of stories and ideas. This is not a history lesson, it is a work inspired by these explorations.

This short film formed part of an exhibition at Newtown Castle in the Burren College of Art and is available to view online for the first time on Culture Night.

This project is the second of three collaborations Fiona Linnane will undertake as part of her Arts Council of Ireland Music Bursary Award. Supported by Clare Arts Office and the Burren College of Art.

Fiona Linnane is a composer based in the West of Ireland.

Touching Stories: Birthplace Memories from Co. Clare

Online

This short film shares birthplace stories and memories gathered from people born in Co. Clare and/or who have had children while living in Co. Clare, c.1930 to 2000.  Martina Hynan, maternal artist, curator and birth activist, has gathered multigenerational stories in which people recount what they know about where they were born, or where their children were born.

This work is part of Martina’s PhD research which explores our changing relationship with birthplace over time.  As well as gathering these stories, the local history and folklore group, Cuimhneamh an Chláir (Clare Memories) has a rich archive of birthplace stories which she is exploring.  The short films and artworks that she is currently working on are a response to these wonderful birthplace stories.
