We are delighted to present two features from the Experimental Film Society (EFS), an Irish company dedicated to the production and screening of experimental cinema.
EFS was founded in 2000 in Tehran, Iran by Rouzbeh Rashidi and has been based in Dublin, Ireland since 2004. As a film collective, it has produced, co-produced, or otherwise assisted in the production of over sixty no-budget or very low-budget feature-length films and 500 short films. In 2011, EFS began to organise screenings, performances and talks, an initiative which has since resulted in over one hundred events all around the globe.
The first feature is a family-friendly screening, a cinematic tribute to Jean Speck (1860-1933), it starts at 8pm.
‘Jean Speck (1860-1933)’ (2011) By Rouzbeh Rashidi & Jann Clavadetscher
Synopsis: Little is known of Jean Speck (1860-1933) beyond the fact that he opened Zurich’s first cinema. Rouzbeh Rashidi and Jann Clavadetscher consider the flittering black and white ghosts and shadows that he left in his wake in their phantasmagorical experimental feature film. This journey through a cinematic night probes the very essence of the cinematic image.
The second feature is not suitable for minors, it starts at 9:30pm.
‘Weird Weird Movie Kids Do Not Watch The Movie’ (2013) By Maximilian Le Cain & Rouzbeh Rashidi
Synopsis: ‘Weird Weird Movie Kids Do Not Watch The Movie’ is the second collaborative feature film between Rouzbeh Rashidi and Maximilian Le Cain. This hypnotic, visually and sonically immersive exploration of a haunted space unfolds in two parts. In the first, a woman (Eadaoin O’Donoghue) dissolves her identity into the ghostly resonances she finds in the rooms and corridors of a sprawling, atmospheric seaside basement property. In the second, a man (Rashidi), existing in a parallel dimension of the same space, pursues a bizarre and perverse amorous obsession.
We invite you to have a taste of the marvellous and striking cutting edge of Irish experimental cinema. You are welcome to watch the whole feature or simply pop in and take a bite during your cultural peregrinations about town 🙂 This is pure cinema so every morsel is an experience!
As with all Culture Night events, this is a free event.
