Books Upstairs

Maurice Earls, historian and owner of Books Upstairs, will give a talk at 6:30pm. As the centenary of the Civil War approaches, the question of its importance will inevitably arise again. The conflict was marked by executions, assassinations and murders, which continued for some time after the order to dump arms. At this distance in time, should we acknowledge that the Civil War, vicious as it was, had little enduring significance?
