Olympia Theatre by Drone

During the lockdowns and restrictions, the world came to a stop, For the entertainment industry in Ireland, it has not started back up again. This project was to show the vast emptiness of a number of venues around Dublin in which Bob Dixon had worked as a photographer by shooting footage from a recently purchased drone. To date, Dixon has done NCH, Whelan’s, and Lighthouse Cinema.

Dublin’s Olympia Theatre started out as The Star of Erin Music Hall in 1879. Since then, the concert hall and theatre venue has hosted musical and acting powerhouses throughout the decades – from David Bowie to Charlie Chaplin, and Adele to Alec Guinness. Since March 2020, the venue has been closed, leaving the sleeping lady of Dame St. to await the return of her clan. But the Olympia is one resilient venue, surviving the 1916 Rising, planned demolition, and even a collapsed roof.  When the Olympia reopens, the roof will be raised so much that it might just fall in again!
