Join acclaimed writer, editor and Irish Times journalist Miriam Mulcahy in conversation with Dorothy Brophy as they explore the discoveries made about landscape, history, time, art and self during Miriam’s remarkable 700km journey along the Beara Breifne Way, from Cork to Cavan.

Miriam’s latest book, Walking to the Foot of the Sky (2026), chronicles her experience of walking this historic trail over three seasons. Part memoir, part exploration of nature, history and place, the book captures the beauty and significance of some of Ireland’s lesser-known landscapes while reflecting on an inward journey of personal discovery. Following both the physical line of the walk from south to north and an internal line of reflection, Miriam considers themes of belonging, memory, technology, creativity and the passage of time.

A bestselling author whose debut book, This is My Sea, was nominated for an Irish Book Award and named an Irish Times Book of the Year, Miriam brings her keen eye for storytelling and observation to this engaging discussion. Together, Miriam and Dorothy will reflect on what it means to walk through a landscape with attention and curiosity, and how a long journey can deepen our understanding of Ireland, its history and ourselves.

Miriam Mulcahy is a writer, editor and journalist, contributing to The Irish Times. Her debut non-fiction, This is My Sea published in 2023 with Eriu / Bonnier was a no 1 bestseller, nominated for an Irish Book Award and was an Irish Times book of the year. Her second book, Walking to the Foot of the Sky, published in May 2026, is an account of how she walked the Beara Breifne Way, a historical trail of 700km through Ireland over three seasons. A memoir about walking, nature, history, time, technology and art, it captures the stunning and resounding beauty of lesser-known parts of Ireland, and centres on the following of two lines, the line of the walk from south to north and an internal line of discovery within the author.
