Music and poetry lovers are in for a treat this Culture Night, when The Innyside Singers, a versatile mixed-voice choir from Ballymahon, present ‘An Evening of Poetry and Music’ in the historic surroundings of The Goldsmith Room, Ballymahon Library.

The choir will perform a rich and varied programme, ranging from songs in the Irish language and stirring modern choral pieces to the ever-popular songs of Percy French. They will be joined by a group of local traditional musicians whose lively jigs and reels are sure to have toes tapping. Between the music, the evening will be woven through with poetry inspired by our Irish heritage.

Many of the songs will be old favourites with choruses to join in on, and the audience will be warmly encouraged to sing along throughout the night. More than a concert, this is an invitation to come together, to share in something familiar and joyful, and to celebrate the songs, tunes and verses that have been handed down through the generations.

Admission is free and everyone is welcome, and the Goldsmith Room is fully wheelchair accessible. Whether you come to listen, to sing, or simply to enjoy the company, this promises to be a heartfelt tribute to – and celebration of – our wonderful cultural heritage. Beidh grúpa ceoltóirí traidisiúnta áitiúla leo, a bhfuil a n-imeachtaí beoga agus rithimeanna cinnte go gcuirfidh siad cluas mhór ag preabadh. Idir na ceoil, beidh filíocht spreagtha ag ár n-oidhreacht Éireannach á hathléiriú tríd an oíche. Beidh go leor de na hamhráin ina sean-réimeanna is fearr le rannchuidiú ag an lucht éisteachta, agus spreagfar an lucht féachana go fonnmhar chun canadh leo tríd an oíche. Níos mó ná ceolchoirm amháin é seo; is cuireadh é teacht le chéile, rud éigin eolach agus sona a roinnt, agus ceol, melóidí agus véarsaí atá á n-iompar tríd na glúine a cheiliúradh.
