‘Abandoned Donegal’ by Denzil Browne.

- Offline
Description:
‘Abandoned Donegal’ was originally exhibited in the Regional Culture Centre, Letterkenny in 2010 in the wake of the financial crash.
This Exhibition followed a year of research and photography of abandoned and derelict commercial properties all around Donegal and is concerned with states of abandonment – unpopulated images catching the mark of people passing through the environment, their existence only confirmed by the evidence of their actions left in their wake.
Ruined and derelict buildings are particularly charged with meaning, the walls soaked in the minutiae of daily life, their state of decay indicating how life is in constant flow and change – these buildings can tell us as much about the future as they are full of the past.
These photographs are a poignant reminder of days gone by in Donegal and an historical record of the country in the not-too-distant past. On Culture Night, the photographer, Denzil Browne, will be available to guide people through the exhibition and offer insights into the creative process.
