A Night at the Opera hosted by Bádóirí an Chladaigh

- Offline
Description:
After a summers sailing Bádóirí an Chladaigh return to the Claddagh Basin again as hosts for Culture Night 2023, A Night at the Opera.
Music from some of the world’s favourite arias by composers such as Verdi, Puccini, Mozart , Bizet and Ireland’s own Patrick Cassidy will feature and will be accompanied by some old and new film of recorded and stage operatic performances.
The new white new sails of The Manuela will be dyed and sealed in the traditional rustic red over the coming weeks. So for Culture Night 2023 they will form the backdrop for the projected film.
Theses sails were templated and hand cut in the Shantalla Community Centre and then hand crafted and sewn in Mervue by Cailean and Danny Bailey, following a long tradition of sail making by their father Johnny Bailey from the West – End Galway.
The beloved hookers and gleóiteogs, these floating sculptures that grace our coast and harbours are a combination of design, craft, art, and seamanship. These boats and those who sail them are an integral part of Galway life and culture. Their story is Galway’s story.
So join The Naomh Crónan, The Manuela and The Meaircín Joe at Claddagh Basin for a nostalgic evening of operatic melodies.
